Turkmenistan starts work on TAPI gas pipeline project

ISLAMABAD: Minister of State for Petroleum Jam Kamal Khan informed the National Assembly (NA) on Friday, that Turkmenistan has started work for the construction of Turkmenistan–Afghanistan–Pakistan–India (TAP)I gas pipeline project.

He said a study is being carried out to identify the outdated pipelines, which will be replaced with new ones in order to ensure uninterrupted gas supply to the consumers.

He further said that Pakistan is currently producing four billion cubic feet of gas but the demand is much higher due to which the country is importing 1200 million cubic feet of Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) to bridge the gap.

While addressing the NA, Minister of State for Power Abid Sher Ali informed that no power load shedding is being carried out in areas where losses are below ten per cent.

He said that load management is being carried out on feeders where losses are high to safeguard the national exchequer from power theft and added that the policy is being implemented irrespective of rural or urban areas.

The NA also constituted a ten-member committee to review cases pertaining to child abuse. The committee has been tasked to suggest measures that can prevent such cases and provide justice to the aggrieved families.

A motion to this effect was moved by Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Sheikh Aftab Ahmad. The committee will present its report before the house within thirty days. The NA will meet again on Monday afternoon.
