FCCI planning visit to GB for exploring investment opportunities

FAISALABAD: The business community from Faisalabad is contemplating to take a delegation to Gilgit-Baltistan for exploring investment opportunities after the end of Ramazan.

According to a report published in Express Tribune, the Faisalabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FCCI) President Shabbir Hussain Chawla made this announcement on Wednesday whilst meeting a visiting delegation from Gilgit-Baltistan Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI).

The delegation from GBCCI comprised was led by its President Nasir Hussain Raki.

FCCI President stated GB was very strategically located near Afghanistan, Azad Jammu and Kashmir, China which gave connectivity by road links for enabling of bilateral trade with these above-mentioned countries.

He added increasing trade with China after the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) and construction of Diamer-Bhasha dam had increased the region’s economic stature.

Mr Chawla said GB had a huge promise for setting up of hydroelectric power projects and possessed major resources of precious metals and stones but this required big investments to commercially unlock this potential.

He told the GBCCI to ensure it played an active role in ensuring that it attracted maximum possible foreign investment and setup a special committee which would be able to give proper information and guidance regarding investment opportunities in the region.

Mr Chawla said this committee would also be able to endorse the reliability of local stakeholders in the GB region.

While speaking on the occasion, GBCCI president talked about the various opportunities available in areas of tourism, mineral exploration, horticulture development and hydroelectric power.

Mr Raki disclosed several countries had expressed interest in investing in Gilgit-Baltistan but stressed Pakistani’s should come forth and lead in this regard and avail maximum benefit from the emanating investment opportunities.

He added, GBCCI was considering organizing an investment conference and this present tour was focused on targeting, contacting and extending an invitation to potential investors for the event.
