ISLAMABAD: As many as 160,500 skilled and unskilled workers have proceeded to other countries for employment through the Bureau of Emigration and Overseas Employment (BEOE) from January 1 to June 30, 2018.
An official source told journalists here on Tuesday a total of 0.5 million people went abroad for employment in the year 2017 through the Bureau, 946,571 in the year 2015 and 839,353 in the year 2016.
He said that since the year 1971 up to June 2018, more than ten million Pakistanis have proceeded abroad through BEOE.
During the year 2015, he said the highest number of Pakistanis (946,571) have proceeded abroad for employment.
More than 96 per cent Pakistanis have proceeded to the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries and about one per cent to European countries and other developed countries. Whereas three per cent has proceeded to Malaysia, Libya, South Korea and other countries of the world, he said.
He said BEOE, established in 1971, is functioning as an attached department of the Ministry of Overseas Pakistanis and Human Resource Development and is responsible to control and regulate the emigration process.
The bureau also facilitates, supervises and monitors the activities of Overseas Employment Promoters (OEPs) and advise the federal government on emigration and procedures.
Another useless governmemt dept. I have worked abroad and dealing with these people involves paying money to agents and touts for protectorate. Thats it. These 1.6 million Pakistanis arranged employment on their own and moreover have to pay their hard earned money to these sarkari clerks. Can anyone tell me what positive contribution does this dept make?
