Siemens Healthineers, NUMS collaborate to improve healthcare system in Pakistan

ISLAMABAD: The Siemens Healthcare and the National University of Medical Sciences (NUMS) Monday signed a Document of Understanding (DoU) along with two German private institutions for a project aimed to engage all four parties in an effort to expand medical facilities and practices in Pakistan.

German institutions, who are part of the project, are ‘It’s a Deal GmbH’ and ‘POWERGROUP GmbH’.

According to studies conducted by the World Health Organisation (WHO), Pakistan requires over 638,000 hospital beds to establish a well-serving medical infrastructure for the country. However, presently, the country is only equipped to fulfill 20pc of that demand.

As part of the DoU, all four parties aim to work towards enhancing the standard of medical facilities and care. The collaboration includes all stages of financing, investments, technological upgrade as well as clinical education and marketing.

Speaking on the occasion, Siemens Healthcare Managing Director/CEO Khurram Jameel said: “It is in many ways a giant leap for healthcare in Pakistan, where we welcome German investors to invest in developing healthcare facilities in the country. Siemens Healthineers is very proud to be part of this collaboration in bringing state-of-the-art medical practices to Pakistan together with NUMS.”

It’s a Deal and POWERGROUP will be structuring a specific investment vehicle to expand the NUMS medical facility within Islamabad with an aim to grow the country’s healthcare institution to over 4,000 hospital beds.

Siemens Healthineers will be the technology partner to NUMS in its expansion plans.
