Punjab PDWP approves six health-related projects worth Rs35.7bn

LAHORE: The Provincial Development Working Party (PDWP)-Punjab has approved six development schemes of various sectors at an estimated cost of Rs35,701.468 million.

Punjab Planning & Development Board Chairman Hamed Yaqoob Sheikh on Monday presided over the 8th PDWP meeting of the current fiscal year (2020-21). The meeting was attended by P&D Secretary Imran Sikandar Baloch, Assistant Chief Coordination Shahid Idrees members of the P&D Board and secretaries of concerned departments.

Speaking on the occasion, Hamed Yaqoob Sheikh emphasized the importance of health initiatives in the development portfolio of the province. He reiterated that health projects should be prioritized to deter the existing health crisis in Punjab.

The approved development schemes included the ‘Establishment of Hospital Waste Management System in Lahore’ (revised) at a cost of Rs137.327 million; ‘Establishment of 250-bedded Mother & Child Hospital in Sialkot’ at Rs5.17 billion; ‘Establishment of a 200-bedded Mother & Child Hospital and Nursing College in Layyah’ at Rs5.74 billion, ‘Establishment of 200-bedded Mother & Child Hospital and Nursing College’ in Rajanpur at Rs8.72 billion; ‘Integrated Reproductive Maternal Newborn & Child Health (IRMNCH) & Nutrition Programme (Phase-III)’ at Rs6.42 billion; and ‘Punjab Rozgar Programme’ at a cost of Rs9.5 billion.
