The Organic Meat Company Limited secures approval to export frozen beef to China

Since its inception in 2010, TOMCL has gradually expanded its operations to become one of the largest halal meat processors and exporters in the country

The Organic Meat Company Limited (TOMCL) has become the first and only Pakistani company to receive approval to export “Cooked/heat treated Frozen Beef” to China, the company’s stock filing on the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) revealed Monday.

In compliance with Section 96 of the Securities Act, 2015, and Clause 5.6.1(a) of PSX Regulations, TOMCL announced that it has successfully secured approvals from the General Administration of Customs of the People’s Republic of China (GACC) to export “Cooked/heat treated Frozen Beef”. This approval is expected to create opportunities for increased export volumes and revenue, benefitting the company and its shareholders.

“With these approvals, The Organic Meat Company Limited is poised to achieve new horizons in terms of export volumes and turnover. The company further believes that these approvals shall have a positive impact on the company’s business, as well as generate good value for its shareholders,” it said.

TOMCL, a key player in Pakistan’s meat industry since 2010, has gradually expanded its operations to become one of the country’s largest halal meat processors and exporters. Beginning with just two products and limited daily production capacities for beef and mutton, the company has evolved to achieve a daily production and chilling capacity of 75 tonnes.

TOMCL’s expansion efforts have been fruitful, securing contracts for fresh and chilled beef exports to Jordan and Kuwait in May 2022, valued at $1.6 million and $0.6 million, respectively. In June 2023, TOMCL expanded its reach further by securing contracts to export pet food to Canada and meat products to Uzbekistan. Notably, TOMCL made history last year by becoming the first Pakistani company to export pet food to Europe and the USA.

While traditionally focused on Middle Eastern markets, TOMCL has successfully diversified its exports by adding pet food raw material to its portfolio. This diversification has allowed the company to enter American and European markets, in addition to maintaining a strong presence in the Far East, Commonwealth of Independent States, and South Asian markets.

TOMCL also takes pride in being the first Pakistani company to export vacuum-packed fresh beef and possessing the technology for vacuum packing and blast freezing of mutton and quarter beef carcasses.

Pakistan’s current meat production stands at approximately 49 lakh tonnes, with only about 2 percent (equivalent to 95,991 tonnes) designated for export. Primary export destinations include Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) states and select Far East countries. In recent months, various Pakistani companies have secured export agreements with China, Egypt, and Indonesia, highlighting positive developments in the industry.
