Customs enforcement seizes smuggled goods worth Rs140 million outside port qasim

Action taken on intelligence regarding misuse of Export Facilitation Scheme; crackdown intensifies against green channel smuggling

The Collectorate of Customs Enforcement Karachi seized smuggled goods valued at approximately Rs140 million during an operation conducted outside Port Muhammad Bin Qasim Terminal on Friday.

According to official details, the action was based on intelligence reports indicating that certain unscrupulous elements were attempting to misuse the Export Facilitation Scheme (EFS) to smuggle various items through the Customs’ green channel by way of misdeclaration.

Customs officials intercepted multiple consignments intended for export and found a range of undeclared and restricted goods concealed within them. Preliminary reports suggest that the seized items include high-value electronics, fabrics, and other dutiable commodities that were being transported under false documentation.

Authorities highlighted that the misuse of the green channel — which is designed to expedite legitimate trade by reducing physical inspections — poses a serious threat to revenue collection and border security. Smugglers often attempt to exploit facilitation schemes like the EFS, intended to support genuine exporters, for illegal trade.

Customs Enforcement has launched further investigations to identify the individuals and companies involved in the racket. Sources indicated that stricter monitoring and profiling measures at Port Qasim and other entry/exit points are being intensified to curb similar attempts in the future.

Officials reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining vigilance against misuse of trade facilitation mechanisms and vowed that legal proceedings would be initiated against all those found complicit in the incident.
