PSDP to prioritise strategic and near-completion projects in 2025–26

The ministry is conducting a rigorous project rationalisation process to ensure maximum productivity and impact

ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Planning, Development and Special Initiatives, Ahsan Iqbal, chaired a high-level meeting to review and prioritise projects for inclusion in the Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP) for the fiscal year 2025-26.

Senior officials from the Planning Ministry and members of the Planning Commission briefed the minister on priority projects across various sectors. The session underscored the government’s commitment to sustaining economic momentum and driving forward its development agenda despite fiscal challenges.

The meeting focused on aligning development initiatives with Uraan Pakistan—a strategic vision built on the 5Es framework: Exports, Equity and Empowerment, E-Pakistan, Environment and Climate, and Energy and Infrastructure.

“Despite the challenges we face, our commitment to the country’s growth is absolute,” Minister Iqbal said. “We will not compromise on the betterment of our people and the progress of our nation.”

Iqbal also touched on national security concerns, warning against external destabilisation efforts. “While we are committed to peace, Pakistan possesses a strong defence. We will not allow India to disrupt our economic and development objectives,” he said.

The Planning Minister reaffirmed that the FY26 PSDP would prioritise projects nearing completion, those of strategic importance, and initiatives with block funding, ensuring adequate allocations for each.

The ministry is conducting a rigorous project rationalisation process to ensure maximum productivity and impact. The aim is to build critical infrastructure, develop human capital, enhance operational efficiency, and strengthen Pakistan’s global standing.

“We are proactively addressing the fiscal realities of the upcoming year,” Iqbal said. “Our strategic approach focuses on recalibrating the development budget while safeguarding essential projects and aligning resources with national priorities under the Uraan Pakistan vision.”
