President Zardari witnesses MoU signing for Thar Block-1 Energy Project

Agreement aims at enhancing exploration and utilisation of Thar's energy resources

During his visit to Shanghai, President Asif Ali Zardari witnessed the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between MFTC Coal Gasification & Manufacturing (Pvt) Ltd and Sino Sindh Resources (Pvt.) Limited, a subsidiary of Shanghai Electric, for the Thar Block-1 Integrated Energy Project.

The signing ceremony took place on September 15, marking a significant step in the comprehensive exploration and utilization of Thar Block-1. On the same day, President Zardari also met with participants of the Project High-Quality Operation Elite Program, which has been running from September 10 to 19.

The program, which includes 17 Pakistani employees from various departments of the project, is aimed at providing professional training and fostering exchange opportunities in Shanghai. During their stay, the trainees underwent systematic technical training, gaining valuable insights into advanced operations and maintenance management.

In his address, President Zardari encouraged the participants to make the most of the learning opportunities, enhance their skills, and contribute to the high-quality development of the project while strengthening Pakistan-China relations.

Mr. Wu Lei, Chairman of Shanghai Electric, briefed attendees on the company’s long-standing presence in Pakistan since 1992, highlighting key projects such as the Sahiwal Coal-fired Power Project and Thar Block-1. He noted that these projects have provided training to over 10,800 local professionals, including more than 8,500 engineers and technical personnel.
