Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif on Monday instructed federal ministries to prepare a comprehensive roadmap and reform agenda aimed at expanding investment and trade in Pakistan’s economy.
Chairing a high-level meeting via Zoom from London, the prime minister said agriculture, information technology, minerals, tourism, and renewable energy were critical sectors with strong potential to draw foreign investors. He added that alongside investment promotion, the government’s policy also prioritizes trade in order to significantly raise export volumes.
Shehbaz Sharif emphasized that ministries had been assigned clear targets and must mobilize all available resources to ensure timely completion of ongoing projects. He directed ministers to identify feasible initiatives and take immediate steps for their execution.
He underscored the importance of a forward-looking roadmap and reform agenda that would guide progress in an organized manner, while highlighting the pivotal role of the private sector in the government’s economic strategy.
“Our ongoing economic and financial reform policies have given a new direction to the economy, and due to innovation and transparency, the country is now on the path of development,” he said.
The virtual meeting was attended by Federal Minister for Environment Musadik Malik, Federal Minister for Petroleum Ali Pervez Malik, Federal Minister for Finance Muhammad Jehanzeb, Federal Minister for Commerce Jam Kamal, Federal Minister for Information Attaullah Tarar, and Federal Minister for Economic Affairs Ahad Khan Cheema.
