Pakistan, EU discuss strengthening trade under GSP+ framework

Commerce Minister Jam Kamal Khan and EU Ambassador Raimundas Karoblis reaffirm commitment to deepen trade and uphold human rights and governance standards

ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Commerce Jam Kamal Khan and European Union Ambassador to Pakistan Raimundas Karoblis met on Tuesday to discuss enhancing trade and investment under the GSP+ framework.

The two officials explored ways to further strengthen bilateral relations, emphasizing the importance of human rights, labour standards, and good governance.

Minister Kamal Khan expressed appreciation for the EU’s support through the GSP+ scheme, which has significantly boosted Pakistan’s exports, particularly in textiles and garments.

Since joining the GSP+ in 2014, Pakistan’s exports to the EU have more than doubled, reaching €8 billion in 2023, with Germany accounting for €2.4 billion of that total.

Both sides discussed further opportunities for economic cooperation, investment, and the upcoming EU-Pakistan Business Forum.
