PIA introduces special fares for Skardu, Gilgit

KARACHI: Visiting the highest global peaks in Gilgit-Baltistan has now become easy, as Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) on Friday introduced special fares to facilitate travellers visiting Skardu and Gilgit.

Sharing the details on its Twitter feed, the national flag carrier announced that it would now be charging a minimum one-way fare of Rs6,915 from passengers travelling from Islamabad to Skardu and Gilgit areas of the federally-administered region.

“Time to admire the highest peaks in the world in Gilgit!!” the PIA said in a message.

Earlier, PIA CEO Air Marshal Arshad Malik, while speaking to the marketing team and airline officials at a review meeting, directed the provision of best services to the passengers travelling on domestic as well as international flights.

He also instructed the employees to work with new zeal, strength and enthusiasm for the betterment of the airline with the start of the new year.

The special fare has been announced keeping in view the weather conditions and to ensure convenient, accessible and affordable air travel facility, specially to the people of northern areas.

It is pertinent to mention that the announcement came after Gilgit Baltistan Governor Jalal Hussain Maqpoon on December 10 wrote a letter to the PIA CEO to lower fares of the airline’s flights in order to promote tourism in the region.

“Gilgit Baltistan has a prominent place in the country’s tourism as it has the second tallest mountain, K-2, and highest altitude plain [plateau] known as Deosai,” Jalal Hussain Maqpoon had stated, besides highlighting the need to facilitate the people of the region.

  1. This is a remarkable step taken & will not only help in promoting tourism but will also provide substantial relief to the poor residents of GB.
Well done Governor Jalal Sahib & thanks CEO PIA.

  2. This is a good news but unfortunately we the people of Gilgit Baltistan are paying 16000 for only 45 mints travelling from Skardu to Islamabad.

  3. PIA is playing game, Islamabad to Skardu fare is 7 to 8 thousands only and Skardu to Islamabad fare is 16000 to 20000. It is only for winter because they don’t get enough passengers for Islamabad to Skardu in wniters.

    • What the shit is this? Why you are charging Rs.6915 fare for only one way?Does the second way consume more fuel than first one?whats the actual logic behind it’s?why you are trying to playing games with GB’s public? Why you are trying to compress the GB’s?Do other people have more superior qualities than GB’s public?Do they haven’t the rights what the other provinces are enjoying? Gilgit Baltistan is adding a valuable amount in GDP in the form of tourism industry,Forests, minerals & water and the most important is CPEC project which will boost up the economy of the country country.& in return the government gives nothing. All the planes which are specialized for GB,are uncertain & risky because these are imported as 2nd handed & on the verge of death.& For what purpose people are appreciating I don’t know.

  4. That’s totally unfair & PIA playing a game with Skardu sector….from Isb to Skardu fare 7000 &Skardu to Isb still charging 15000 fare on nearest dates…that’s what just a bised policy with the people of Baltistan…every Skardu root is more profotable sector for pia..

  5. ASALAM O ALAIKUM
Let me loud PIA new fares for GB destination
Same is required for moan jo daro and sukkur rohri

  6. This is just lolly pop and marketing of PIA .. Now a winner season no one travel to Skardu or Gilgit.. 70% of Gbeain move to Islamabad in winter season and the fare of skardu to Islamabad is still 16500..
