Sindh govt-transporters dispute could harm mango exports

Due to dispute between the Sindh government and the transporters association, it is feared that the shipment of mango exports could get disrupted starting from next week.  Recently, the Sindh High Court had barred heavy vehicles movement on Karachi roads to 24 hours a day, a move that hasn’t been welcomed by the transporters.

In a statement given by Ahmad Jawad who is the regional chairman of the FPCCI, he mentioned that perishable fruit and vegetable exports have already been affected severely due to this strike and now mango exports too are under threat. According to sources, this strike has hampered the exports of potatoes and garlic, and per fruit exporters the containers have experienced severe congestion at Karachi Port which will delay their clearance too.  The former chairman of All Pakistan Fruit and Vegetable Exporters, Importers and Merchants Association Waheed Ahmed said that this current protest could affect the export of Sindhri crop which is midway through its season.

Mango exports from Pakistan are valued at $70m and majority of it goes to Dubai from where other Gulf countries get their supply from.  Also, the fruit exporters pleaded the Sindh govt to ensure this issue gets resolved at the earliest.
