NIRC directs police to arrest NBP president

ISLAMABAD: The National Industrial Relation Commission (NIRC) has directed the station house officer (SHO) of police station I.I Chundrigar Road to arrest President and CEO National Bank of Pakistan (NBP), Arif Usmani.

Document states that member NIRC Muhammad Arshaf directed the SHO to produce Usmani on September 28, in a case pertaining to non-implementation of order, at NIRC’s headquarter in Islamabad. 

However, the letter states that the bank’s head may be released by submitting bail in the sum of Rs50,000 with one surety to attend the bench of the commission on September 28.

It is pertinent to mention that NIRC deals with unfair labour practice on the part of employers and workers, resolution of industrial disputes, registration of trans provisional trade unions and unions in Islamabad, federation and determination of Collective Bargaining Agents (CBA).

It is headed by retired or serving judges of the Supreme Court of Pakistan (SCP) and its members are retired or serving district and session judges, federal government officers, registrar of the NIRC. It plays an important role in promoting industrial peace which is necessary for high productivity in commercial institutions.

The scribe approached NBP President Arif Usmani for his comments on this matter but no reply was received till the filing of the story.
