Govt likely to increase taxes on infant milk in upcoming budget

Taxes on bakery items and spices also likely to increase

The federal government is likely to increase taxes on infant milk in the upcoming budget.

Sources close to the preparations of the budget said that the Federal Board of Revenue is considering increasing sales tax on infants’ formula milk.

Currently, the sales tax on infant milk is 12% which is likely to increase to 18% in next year’s budget, sources added.

In addition, the government will not only increase sales tax to 18% on bakery items but also spices in the budget to be announced on June 9, 2023.

Sources also said that the government will also increase sales tax to 18%  on Packaged Meat, Poultry & Seafood items.

It is pertinent to note that the government in February this year increased General Sales Tax to 18% from 17%.

    • you only collect tax if companies and individuals make profit and right now, most of the companies profit is in downwards trajectory except few. The main problem is the exports which are dipping consistently for past 1 year. 60% of tax payers are Govt. Servants who’s tax are being deducted from their salaries and the Tajir Mafia never taxed for 75 years due to being in power for 75 years.

  3. 80% Children in Pakistan suffering from stunted growth, children already not getting enough nutrients and formula milk prices already sky rocketed beyond the reach of commoners, on top of this, the govt. want to increase more taxes on infant formula. This govt has no vision, no solution and no future plans. They simply have one solution which is taxes. shame on this PDM Mafia.
