Sazgar records drop in four-wheeler production and sales in April

Haval and BAIC manufacturer reports fall in sales, three-wheeler segment remains strong as company maintains leading position

Sazgar Engineering Works Limited (PSX: SAZEW), a key player in Pakistan’s automotive manufacturing sector, reported a noticeable decline in production and sales of its four-wheeler segment for April 2025. According to a stock exchange filing released today, the company produced 693 units of four-wheelers—including off-road and passenger vehicles—and sold 549 units during the month.

It is important to note that Sazgar’s limited four wheeler product portfolio comprises of locally assembled models from two Chinese automotive brands; Haval and BAIC.

The current figures reflect a decrease from March 2025, when four-wheeler production stood at 870 units and sales reached 943 units. The drop suggests a potential seasonal adjustment or market-specific volatility in consumer demand within the segment.

In contrast, Sazgar’s three-wheeler business remained relatively strong. The company produced 1,742 units and sold 1,958 units in April, maintaining momentum from March, when it produced 1,870 units and sold 1,970 units. The robust performance of the three-wheeler segment highlights continued consumer reliance on Sazgar’s flagship CNG 4-stroke auto rickshaws for urban and commercial mobility.

Headquartered in Lahore, Sazgar Engineering Works is widely recognised for its durable three-wheeler auto rickshaws and has recently expanded into the four-wheeler market, offering both off-road vehicles like the BAIC BJ40 plus and passenger SUVs like the Haval H6. The company also manufactures automotive wheel rims and maintains a growing presence in export markets.

In recent years, Sazgar has diversified its product portfolio by launching locally assembled variants of popular Chinese off-road vehicles under agreements with international brands. Its entrance into the SUV and off-road segments has broadened its reach, although the company continues to rely heavily on its three-wheeler line for sales volumes.

Despite the monthly fluctuations, Sazgar maintains its leadership position in Pakistan’s three-wheeler market and continues to expand its footprint globally through a network of dealers and export partnerships.
