Pakistan Railways has managed to save billions of rupees in electricity costs over the past eight months, thanks to the implementation of solarization, and strict actions against electricity theft.
During a meeting chaired by Federal Minister for Railways Muhammad Hanif Abbasi, it was revealed that the initiative had led to substantial savings across various divisions of Pakistan Railways.
Among the divisions, the Lahore Division recorded the highest savings, amounting to Rs. 416.6 million, followed by the Mughalpura Workshop with Rs. 243 million.Â
Other significant savings included Rs. 38 million by the Quetta Division, Rs. 75 million by the Rawalpindi Division, and Rs. 26 million by the Karachi Division.Â
Additionally, the Sukkur Division saved Rs. 60 million, the Multan Division recorded savings of Rs. 9.6 million, and the Peshawar Division saved Rs. 6.46 million.
Minister Muhammad Hanif Abbasi praised the initiatives and stressed the importance of maintaining a zero-tolerance policy against electricity theft, warning that violators could face imprisonment.Â
He commended the recent reforms for significantly lowering operational costs and improving transparency and accountability within Pakistan Railways.
