Attock Petroleum Limited has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Huawei Technologies Pakistan and its partner AE Power to collaborate on the development of electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure across Pakistan.
According to reports, under the agreement, the three organisations will jointly establish EV charging stations and promote electric mobility, contributing to a sustainable, energy-efficient transportation ecosystem. The initiative aligns with national efforts to reduce carbon emissions and expand clean energy adoption.
Pakistan’s EV sector has shown significant progress in recent years, with more than 3,800 investors expressing interest in establishing charging stations nationwide. Official data shows over 70 licences have already been issued, and several charging facilities are now operational.
The federal government’s National Electric Vehicle Policy (2025–2030) targets the installation of 10,000 EV charging stations by 2030, supported by tariff reductions of up to 44% to attract private investment.
Provincial initiatives are also underway. Punjab has proposed setting up 2,000 charging stations and introducing 600 electric buses, while Sindh plans to install charging points every 50 kilometres along major routes to facilitate intercity travel.
Recently, Pakistan’s fastest 120 kW charging station was inaugurated in Islamabad, capable of fully charging vehicles within an hour.
Growing consumer interest in EVs — particularly e-bikes, rickshaws, and passenger cars — reflects the country’s gradual shift toward clean transportation. The new collaboration between Attock Petroleum, Huawei, and AE Power is expected to accelerate this transition and strengthen Pakistan’s emerging EV ecosystem.
