Chinese firm to set up food processing, donkey meat export unit in Gwadar

Gwadar Port Authority says new industrial projects will boost jobs and investor confidence

The Gwadar Port Authority and China’s Henggeng Trade Company announced plans to establish multiple industrial and export-oriented projects in the port city, aimed at stimulating regional economic activity and attracting new investment.

At a joint press briefing, Gwadar Port Authority Chairman Noor ul Haq Baloch and Henggeng Trade Company CEO Andy Liao said the Chinese firm would develop food processing and export-based units in the Gwadar Free Zone as part of its first-phase operations.

They said the initiative would begin with a donkey meat processing and export facility designed to promote the local cottage industry and support related sectors such as salt production, packaging, and transportation.

Officials noted that while donkey farming exists elsewhere in Pakistan, it has yet to develop in Balochistan. Establishing breeding and feed facilities in Gwadar, they added, would help ensure supply for the planned export operations and open new opportunities for local farmers.

The Gwadar Port Authority said these industrial projects would generate employment, strengthen the city’s free trade zone, and encourage further investment from Chinese enterprises under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).
