The Ministry of Commerce on Wednesday held a consultative session with the Sectoral Council for Sports Goods to review challenges facing the industry and outline measures aimed at improving Pakistan’s position in the global sports goods market.
The meeting, chaired by Coordinator to the Prime Minister on Commerce Rana Ihsaan Afzal Khan, focused on strengthening skills, streamlining export-related procedures and improving quality standards across the sector.
Officials and industry representatives agreed to develop a structured skill development programme in partnership with universities, NAVTTC and TEVTA, ensuring that training and technical qualifications match current industry needs. Participants also emphasised the introduction of third-party certification to meet international quality benchmarks.
Industry members highlighted key issues requiring government support, including improvements in the Drawback of Local Taxes and Levies (DLTL) scheme, easier access to the Export Finance Scheme (EFS), updated technical training curricula, and credible systems for product certification and quality assurance.
Mr Khan directed that the Sectoral Council hold monthly review sessions to track progress and maintain coordination between industry and government departments. Participants agreed that timely follow-up and joint implementation would be essential for delivering results.
He reiterated the government’s commitment to transforming the sports goods sector, noting that upgraded skills, reliable certification mechanisms and continuous engagement with stakeholders will help enhance export performance in the coming years.
