Asad Umar tasks revenue minister to come up with reforms programme

ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Finance, Revenue and Economic Affairs Asad Umar has constituted a committee headed by State Minister for Revenue Hammad Azhar to come up with a “massive and comprehensive” reform programme before the close of the financial year.

The committee which includes the ‘best minds of the country’, would watch over the reforms agenda aiming at short and medium as well as long-term strategies for optimal revenue generation and resource mobilisation.

The decision was taken at a meeting with Finance Minister for Finance, Revenue and Economic Affairs Asad Umar in the chair at the FBR House. State Minister for Revenue Hammad Azhar, Sakib Sherani, Member Sub Group of Economic Advisory Committee on Fiscal Policy; Dr. Naveed Hamid, Member Sub Group of Economic Advisory Committee on Fiscal Policy; Dr. Asad Zaman, Member Sub Group of Economic Advisory Committee on Fiscal Policy; MAshfaq Tola, Member of Tax Reforms Commission; Abdul Qadir Memon, President of Pakistan Tax Bar Association; and Shabar Zaidi were also present.

It was decided that the Committee would meet once every fortnight to devise strategies for revenue collection and come up with short and medium-term measures and goals to be implemented before the close of the financial year. The meeting also decided to translate all tax statutes in Urdu on a priority basis.
