PM’s aide says rupee not being devalued for the first time

  • ‘Interbank dollar rate rose by Rs32 during PPP’s era, while it increased by Rs26 during PML-N’s tenure’

Amidst criticism on the devaluation of Pakistani rupee against US dollar, Special Assistant to Prime Minister Iftikhar Durrani on Friday released a list of interbank dollar rates during the previous governments, a private media outlet reported.

Iftikhar Durrani said the interbank dollar rate rose by Rs32, from Rs64 to Rs96 during the government of the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP).

“The dollar climbed steeply during the era of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), as it went up to Rs26 from Rs96 to Rs122,” he said in a statement, adding that the interbank dollar rate further increased by Rs6 during the interim government and reached Rs128 per dollar.

He said the interbank dollar rate witnessed an increase of Rs18.5 during the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government.

It is pertinent to mention that the US dollar reached a new record high of Rs150 in the interbank market on Friday.

  1. That’s no excuse to further devalue it.
We didn’t vote for IK to do what previous governments did. What’s the use then.

    • Its not what IK govt did. These are the after-effects of what previous govts have been doing. As far as,currency devalue is concerned,it not in control of Imran Khan himself, but its because of our overall economic structure of Pakistan.

      • Well excuse me,there are maximum 3 months that a new government gives excuse of last government. But in ppp or pmln era, Pakistani currency was not the worst currency of south asia. Nepal and afghanistan are having more value than pkr.we are leading towards more loan per day. If IK recovers whole money from nawaz shareef still we would be in great debt.IK is doing personal war its not for country

  2. So you feel what Happened during PPP and PML-N era was fine and no problem if it happens again in PTI tenure ? Silly justifications by the Youthia’s 🙂 It was bad then and it is worse now!

  3. Lame excuses by PTI Govt. Spokespersons. Truth has now revealed to everyone. Alhumdu lillah, they are exposed before time.

  5. It is also worth mentioning that above mentioned increase occurred gradually during a period of 5 years in each respective Govt.’s tenure, but here it has happened in only 9 months during present Govt. God forbid, the crisis seems to enhance manifold… ☹☹☹

    • Not the Islamic Presidential System but the actual Sharia system comprising of Zakat n Ushar and curbing the curse of Riba i.e. Sood. Only it can save us, otherwise our economy will remain mortgaged with the Western world.

  7. I still believe that IK will bring Pakistan back to actual road, we should open the eyes when we been voting to these criminals since the last 30 years.

    • Ik was a teacher but we make him a leader.teacher is always a teacher who just give his opinion and criticize.and a leader is always a leader just like tayab ardugan and mahatir mohammad.if he has done same as he said in his election campaign then it was a different situation of Pakistan .

  8. What I’K said before elections that he has a good working team in every field…Arastus…that proved to be a total lie….we believed in his speech and body language….we voted twice for him. But the lesson we are getting now…is a lesson that we shall not only believe in words of a person. Actions speak more than words do.

  9. Lame excuses of the govt.In its 9 month reign,Pakistan,s currency witnessed 27 Rs.devaluation. It is miserable failure of the govt.

No hard feelings, Nizam Sikkay ka bhi tu doo guzra hy….

  12. Well said.
Now you have right for increment of dollar value by Rs 26; as pervious govt did.
But if you compare it with PPP era by percentage then you are not bad if you increase the dollar price by Rs 50. (Rs 64 + 50% = Rs 96)

  13. After shock of previous Governments…..

Fake economy is now converting into real one, so real things takes time.

    Thanks
