Rains to positively impact Kharif crops

The expected spell of rains would bring about a positive impact on all the seasonal crops including, pulses, fruits and vegetables.

Particularly, these rains would help in increasing the moisture of fields for timely sowing of all major Kharif crops including cotton, rice, sugarcane, maize and pulses, Member Plant Sciences in Pakistan Agriculture Research Council (PARC) said Dr Ali talking to APP on Tuesday.

Besides, he said the recent spell of rains would help in decreasing the overall temperature which would further boost the output of the wheat crop in the country.

Recently, the wheat crop was at the maturity stage and during this stage, above the normal heat badly affects the growth and nourishment of the grains and can decrease the output of the crop, he added.

An official in the Ministry of National Food Security and Research said that above and beyond normal rains and hailstorm could damage wheat crops in this stage as the crop has reached its maturity stage.

The MET office had predicted that a fresh westerly wave was likely to enter Pakistan and grip the upper and central parts of the country, which may last until Thursday.

In the next 48 hours, a rain-thunderstorm was expected in scattered places of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, FATA, Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Lahore, Sargodha, Faisalabad divisions, as well as Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan. Hailstorm was also expected in Islamabad, upper Punjab, upper KP and Kashmir.
