The Fauji Foundation has appointed renowned corporate figure Waqar Ahmed Malik as its new Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer.
The announcement has recently been made through a notification issued by the foundation.
Spanning over 30 years in corporate and business sectors across three continents, Malik has specialty in strategy, corporate/ business leadership and board governance.
His professional experience includes managing and leading businesses in the petrochemicals, consumer and the life sciences industry.
Malik’s career began with the ICI group based in the United Kingdom and then Akzo Nobel in the Netherlands where he was provided opportunity to work in Europe and the Americas.
In Pakistan, he was appointed as the Country Head of ICI Plc’s operations in Pakistan, the largest foreign investment in the chemical sector at the time. For over 10 years, Malik served as the Chief Executive Officer of ICI Pakistan and also the CEO and Chairman of Lotte Pakistan (formerly Pakistan PTA Limited).
He moved on from ICI Pakistan in December 2012 post divestment of majority shareholding of the foreign sponsor in ICI Pakistan to a local group. Malik also has vast experience in managing functional teams as well as leading large and complex manufacturing based operations.
Malik also served in the past as President of Overseas Investors Chamber of Commerce & Industry, Management Association of Pakistan, Director Pakistan Business Council and is a Trustee of the Lahore University of Management Sciences, Duke of Edinburgh trust & the Indus Valley School of Art.
He has also been a member of the Board of Central Bank of Pakistan, Chairman Sui Southern Gas Company Limited, Member Board of OGDCL, Karachi Port Trust, director IGI Insurance, director ENGRO Corp, Engro Polymer Chemicals, independent non-executive director Standard Chartered Bank, non-executive chairman Pakistan Oxygen, non-executive director TPL Insurance, TPL direct insurance, and Chairman Noesis.
This appointment has always been Held by the armed forces considering it to be a welfare institution for the retired army personals and the families of Shohada.
Not that the civilians are not welfare minded but the Army leader has a different bond with the Subordinates this is my opinion right or wrong. I am pretty sure that the competent authorities must have made this decision after considering all pros and corns.Looking at the credentials of the new CEO which are brilliant shows he will be extremely savvy on the subject and worthy of holding this appointment.
Fauji Foundation which has multiple concerns and the feeder units which is the industry needs a person from the corporate sector who is conversant with the contemporary business gimmicks which unfortunately or by design is not a soldiers cup of tea . The mother ship has to be made strong to feed the welfare organs such as the medical and education etc and it’s own overheads which are substantial.
This job can only be performed by a business professional with integrity and if he is supported by his team as an out sider has to go through turbulent waters, these projects if handled diligently and right man for the right job can produce significant results.
In the end I would say that soldiers being simple get carried away by Hi Fi degrees and credentials so let the new gentleman deliver and that would be once our soldiers or beneficiaries are benefited .

A charitable trust which wss considerably made for welfare of Soldiers, now has been commercialized, very unfortunate for hopes of reired beneficiaries. Retired Soldiers have already been pressed hard by increasing school fee and decreasing their salaries (those employed in FF), not a good sign for lower level attached with Fauji Foundation.
It was always a commercial organisation but it did not make profit for somebody’s pockets, but for welfare of retired, deceased and martyred soldiers. If it is run like a good corporation, it will generate more profits for this worthy cause. A seasoned and experienced leader with savvy commercial sense, at the helm, will help achieve the objectives of FF. A step in the right direction.
Faujis have always been taking along a professional team in its technical and finance Group to maximize its excellence and hiring of a new corporate head would definitely bring dividends
A brilliant decision made by Fauji Foundation.
Lets hope the new gentleman could deliver the best to one of the best organisation / group of Pakistan.

FF has always been the major contributer towards the retired Army persons shaheeds families and war wounded soldiers. In other wards a total walfare organisation for Army. There is no harm appointing civilian CEO & MD if the wrlfare aspect is not dominated by the profit increasing approach. This is what the COAS has to keep in mind.

مگر حالیہ طوفانِ بادو باراں نے تو فوجی فاؤنڈیشن کالج کی جڑوں تک ھلا کر رکھ دیا۔معصوم طلبہ کیسے کیسے چھتنار و سایہ دار اشجار کے سایے سے محروم کردیے گئے۔اپنے عہد کے فیثا غورث ریاضی جن کے بائیں ھاتھ کا کھیل تھا،جناب حامد اسحاق،کم گو،باوقار اور شاندار شخصیت کے مالک شعبہء بائیالوجی کے سربراہ جناب امجد ملک،بابائے کیمیا اور ھر موقعے کے مطابق لطیفوں کی پھلجڑیاں چھوڑنے کے حوالے سنجیدہ موضوعات پر گفتگو کرنے کرنے والے شعبہء کیمسٹری کے سربراہ جناب عدنان صبور،کیمسٹری ہی کے وجیہ و شکیل اور بارعب شخصیت کے حامل جناب نعمان اعجاز اور نازک مزاج مگر ہنس مکھ و خوش مزاج جناب عدنان مختار۔۔۔۔۔یہ سب بھی ایم ڈی کی طرف سے چلنے والی طوفانی آندھی کا رزق بن گئے۔
کس کس کا ماتم کریں کس کس کو روئیں۔شعبہء انگریزی تو بالکل ھی یتیم و بے دست و پا ھوگیا۔سرو قامت،متبسم،خوش اخلاق و نفیس استاد برادرم عمران علی کو کون بھول سکتا ہے؟کڑیل جوان،سدا بہار دلآویز مسکراھٹ سے مزین اوراپنی خوب صورت آواز کا جادو جگانے والے،جانِ محفل عدنان اعجاز،کالج کے نظم و ضبط اور طلبہ کی تربیت اور تعمیر شخصیت کے لیے ہمہ وقت ان کے پیچھے بھاگتے دوڑتے اور ایس ایچ او کی طرح معاملات کی تفتیش کرکے تہ تک پہنچنے والے سیماب صفت ساجد اللہ۔۔۔۔اس کالج کی مغموم اور اداس فضائیں ان دلکشا ہستیوں کی جدائی میں ہمیشہ ماتم کرتی رہیں گی۔۔۔۔اور یہ کیا سنجیدہ گفتگو اور طنز و ظرافت میں یکساں کمال رکھنے والے خوبصورت مسکراہٹ والے شعبہء اسلامیات کے سربراہ شکیل احمد بھی اس قدر دل برداشتہ ہوئے کہ وہ بھی چلے گئے۔ہرتقریب میں منفرد انداز میں نبی ص کی شان میں گلہائے عقیدت پیش کرکے سماں باندھ دینے والے احسان رضا کی بامروت اور عجز و انکسار سے معمور شخصیت کو بھی بھلا کوئی بھول سکتا ھے؟فزکس ھی کے ہنس مکھ،بے تکلف،مستعد اور طلبہ و اساتذہ کے دلوں میں جگہ بنانے والے عدنان احمد بھی استعفا دے کر ایم ڈی کی وحشیانہ پالیسی کے خلاف صدائے احتجاج بلند کرتے رخصت ھو گئے۔
ہرقسم کی صورت حال میں روایتی مسکراھٹ سے لیس اور دوستوں کے طنز و تعریض کے تیروں کو تبسم کے سپر پہ لینے والےسکول سیکشن کے سیکشن ھیڈ فاران عاصم قریشی کو کون بھلا سکے گا؟سکول کے اساتذہ،ہسپتال کے ڈاکٹرز و نرسنگ سٹاف اور کالجز کے پروفیسروں کی ھرمحاذ پر پوری دیانتداری اور بہادری سے راہنمائی کرنے والے انجم عباس ہیں تو کمپیوٹر کے شعبے سے وابستہ مگر سچ بات یہ ھے کہ وہ ھرشعبے کی شان اور پورے کالج کی جان و ادارے کے ماتھے کا جھومر تھے۔۔طلبہ،لوئر و کلیریکل سٹاف،اساتذہ اورھر پرنسپل کے دل میں یکساں جگہ بنانے والے جہانگیر بھٹہ کو سبھی یاد کریں گے بلکہ اس کالج کے در و دیوار،کیفے،لان،سٹاف روم اور تمام شعبے نہیں کبھی نہ بھول پائیں گے۔ان کے صدا بہارقہقہے ہمیشہ زندہ رھیں گے۔

The CFO position of Fuji Foundation subsidiaries has historically been held by a civilian. Now Mr. Waqar is the overall boss of a welfare organization, being a finance guy, I would ask him to improve the financial reporting of the foundation as many implicit costs like salary of uniform officers serving the foundation go unreported in the organization. Technically the profit of foundation should cover those salaries as well.
We hope that new MD will cancel all the wrong decisions/orders made by ex MD specially HR related matters(releive of employees from service without any proper reason) and will get prayers of many families.
Lets hope that the new MD dilivers as per the aspirations of those who trusted him with this appointment. Fauji Foundations runs a large no of set ups where a civilian talant with experience and knowledge of them was required and above all one who understands the essence of charity works as so is the mandate of this Institution.
