Govt taking institutional measures to speed up CPEC projects, says Hafeez Shaikh

ISLAMABAD: Advisor to Prime Minister on Finance and Revenue Abdul Hafeez Shaikh on Friday said that the government is taking several institutional steps to further speed up implementation of the China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) projects.

The adviser to the prime minister was addressing a meeting with the Chinese Ambassador to Pakistan Yao Jing, who called on the adviser in Islamabad, according to a press statement issued by the Finance Ministry. 

Several matters of mutual interest were discussed during the meeting, the statement added.

Hafeez Shaikh, while discussing progress on CPEC projects, emphasised that the corridor was the culmination of the deep-rooted collaboration of the people and governments of China and Pakistan.

He appreciated the support provided by China to Pakistan over the years.

Reviewing the social and economic impact of the Covid-19 pandemic across the globe, 

Hafeez Shaikh apprised the ambassador regarding the wide-reaching measures that the Government of Pakistan has taken in order to provide relief to the low-income and vulnerable people suffering from the negative effects of the pandemic.

He also informed the Chinese ambassador of the initiatives that were being undertaken to stimulate the country’s economy.

The Chinese ambassador assured Hafeez Shaikh that China will provide enhanced investments in development projects that will help further stimulate Pakistan’s economy and generate employment.
