Business community slams BOI for downplaying investors

ISLAMABAD: Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) on Monday said that the Board of investment (BOI) has not been giving importance to issues faced by the investors.

FPCCI Capital Office Coordinator Mirza Abdul Rehman said that BOI should facilitate the business community including the chambers of commerce.

In a statement Abdul Rehman expressed disappointment at a recent meeting in which eight of the 10 speakers were officers of BOI whereas only two speakers belonged to the business community.

He said that the business community was not encouraged to speak up during the meeting adding that a lack of trust persisted between the investors and the relevant authorities.

“The lack of trust is a key reason why we do not see much investment in the country except for investment in the real estate sector,” the FPCCI leaders said. He said that the government needs to facilitate the business community and improve the investment climate in the country.
