PIA’s sale of A-310 to German Museum questioned

The management of the Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) is showing interest for a possible sale out of an operational A-310 aircraft to a German museum for $5m, reported a national daily.

The PIA spokesman said that the showcased aircraft will be placed at the  PIA livery and it will be an opportunity to showcase our airline in the heart of Europe.

He revealed that the aircraft had been recently grounded from PIA. He further stated that the transaction has not yet happened and that the German museum had only expressed their interest for the transaction.

The issue of sale of the PIA aircraft had been raised while a meeting of special committee of the Senate to discuss the performance of the national flag carrier. The committee members have directed  an inquiry into the deal and also sending the same plane for appearing in film being produced in Malta.

The parliamentarians claimed that PIA crew was sent to Malta along with aircraft illegally without prior permission from the government. The committee directed the federal secretary aviation to submit a report on the issue of selling the aircraft for $5m. The committee further directed that executive officer of PIA be present at the next meeting.
