MOU signed between Sinohydro and KP for hydropower projects

A memorandum of understanding (MOU) was signed between Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (KP) and Chinese company Sinohydro for two combined hydropower projects to produce 610MW of electricity.

KP Chief Minister (CM) Pervez Khattak also attended the signing ceremony and on the occasion warned the federal government to end unjust power outages across the province or the matter would have to be taken to court.

The MOU signed is part of 1,900MW of electricity that is going to be generated in the province under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor, the CM stated.

The KP government is working on generating 4,747MW electricity through building 750 small hydro projects on rivers and streams.

Private companies were also invited to invest in 668MW electricity generation via advertisements. Out of the total, 150MW projects had been granted while the remaining projects would be assigned within the next three months.

KP government has also secured an agreement with the Frontier Works Organisation (FWO) to produce 506MW electricity in Chitral.

The work on 50MW solar power generation plant in Hattar, Haripur will be initiated very soon by a Canadian company, he told the media. Nonetheless, the CM didn’t provide any deadline for the finishing of these projects.
