Recovery of non-tax revenue reviewed by provincial finance minister

A meeting was conducted by Provincial Finance Minister Dr Ayesha Ghaus Pasha on Tuesday to analyse recoveries of non-tax revenue during March 2016 to March 2017 and the estimates of expected revenue during next quarter.

The Finance Special Secretary Saifullah Dogar, Finance Deputy Secretary Noorul Ain and concerned officers of Board of Revenue, Cooperatives, Education, Health, Agriculture, Forests & Wildlife, Communication & Works, Livestock, Industry, Irrigation, Mines & Minerals, Police, Law & Parliamentary Affairs and Home Departments attended the meeting.

The Finance special secretary said that the non-tax recoveries of Communication & Works, Agriculture, Education, Health, Livestock and Home Department saw a rise in comparison to last year. He apprised that most of the departments have nearly achieved their targets fixed in the budget and will attain them by end of the current financial year. The departments showing poor performance were also pinpointed and briefings were also received from these departments in this meeting.

The performance of Education, Health, Agriculture, Communication & Works, Mines & Minerals and Home Departments was also hailed as satisfactory; the minister mentioned that the provincial government is mainly concentrating on the Education, Health, Agriculture and infrastructure. Pasha stated it is critical that the concerned departments also focus on strengthening their capacity-building. It was also highlighted that these departments should not only be meeting their own expenditures but also increase the resources of the province so that maximum facilities could be provided to the common man.

Pasha also instructed those departments not achieving their targets of non-tax revenue to raise their performance and also assured help for settling their problems. She mentioned that all departments can improve their performance by minimising the leakage chances through automation in the recovery system. The targets of non-tax revenue in the next budget will be fixed in consultation with the concerned departments, she said.
