NTC to carry out anti-dumping investigation against China, South Africa

ISLAMABAD

The National Tariff Commission (NTC) has decided to hold anti-dumping investigation against alleged dumped imports of color coated steel coils, and sheets originated or being exported from China and South Africa.

According to the notice, NTC will hold investigation into dumping inquiry. It will also investigate imports to determine any material injury to the domestic industry. The preliminary investigation will be completed within a two to six months period.

NTC had received an anti-dumping application from the International Steels Limited Karachi – domestic producer of color coated steel coils and sheets – alleging dumping of these products from China and South Africa.

The complainant said that the alleged dumping was causing material injury to the domestic industry. The dumped product has large number of usages from agriculture, construction, home and electrical appliances, packing, drums, railway coaches, furniture and fixtures, billboards and hoardings.

In economics, “dumping” is a kind of predatory pricing, especially in the context of international trade. It occurs when manufacturers export a product to another country at a price either below the price charged in its home market or below its cost of production.

An anti-dumping duty is a protectionist tariff that a domestic government imposes on foreign imports that it believes are priced below fair market value.
