ISLAMABAD: Mounting legal woes have made Finance Minister Ishaq Dar’ position tenuous as Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi is pondering to replace him with Ahsan Iqbal, who already is at the helm of Interior Ministry and Ministry of Planning.
A notification for providing additional charge of finance ministry to Ahsan Iqbal is expected to be issued soon, reported Express Tribune.
Accountability and graft cases have left Dar in a quandary, as he has become virtually ineffective as finance minister. But according to sources, in a recent meeting at Jati Umra, ex-PM Nawaz Sharif had outright declined to give go-ahead for Dar’s removal.
Nonetheless, the sources said re-opening of the Hudabiya Papers Mill case in which Dar confessed to having laundered money for the Sharif family, makes it highly improbable for him to continue as finance minister.
