Railways to launch 20 new trains next year: Sh Rashid

PESHAWAR: Railways Minister Sheikh Rashid Ahmad has said 20 new trains would be launched next year to facilitate the passengers.

Talking to reporters in Peshawar on Saturday at the Divisional Railway Headquarters, he said the number of freight trains will also be increased to 15 by the end of next year.

He said a new passenger train, Rehman Baba Express, will be launched from tomorrow (Sunday) which would not only reduce the travelling time between Peshawar and Karachi but would also facilitate passengers by giving them affordable fares. He added that two VIP trains would also be launched besides three trains for the tourists.

The minister said employment opportunities would be created for skilled youth in Pakistan Railways.

He said an agreement would be inked in March next year for laying a new railway track from Karachi to Peshawar, adding the government would change the infrastructure of railway tracks in the country.

Shaikh Rasheed said he would monitor the operations of trains and take result-oriented steps to bring further improvements in the workings of railways, adding that upgradation of railways would also help increase economic activities in the country.
