‘Anomalies in tax software to be removed soon’

Taking notice of the show cause notices issued to the commercial importers, State Minister for Revenue Hammad Azhar has said the anomalies in the sale tax software would be removed soon.

During a meeting with a joint delegation of Pakistan Chemicals and Dyes Merchants Association (PCDMA) and Indenters Association of Pakistan (IAP), led by former Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry vice president Saquib Fayyaz Magoon, Hammad Azhar said the government would resolve the problems pertaining to software anomalies and SRO 1125 on a priority basis, adding that the government believes in the provision of business-friendly environment in the country.

He assured the delegations of his support to resolve the matter of show causes issued due to anomalies in the software CREST.

Earlier, Saquib Fayyaz Magoon had pointed out that the chemical manufacturers and commercial importers of items listed in SRO 1125 were facing problems, as they were receiving undue show cause notices due to anomalies in CREST. He demanded modification in the software as per the SRO 1125.

He said such SRO was applicable after reducing a long list of multipurpose items (used by all industries) to a very short list of those items that are mainly used in five zero-rated sectors including textile, leather, carpet, surgical and sports.

He said the government should focus on business generation to increase revenue. Only a business-friendly atmosphere can help the country flourish economically.

He said that tax policymakers should take trade associations on board, as trade associations can better highlight the real issues of their particular sectors.
