Export of sports goods up 6.44pc to $26.1m in July

The export of footballs, however, decreased 9.12pc to $12.5m in July 2020, as against $13.8m in July 2019

ISLAMABAD: The export of sports goods from the country increased 6.44pc to $26.169 million in July 2020, as compared to the exports of $24.585 million in July 2019, Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) reported.

According to the PBS data, the export of gloves increased 0.61 per cent in July 2020 to $7.118 million from $7.075 million in July 2019.

On the other hand, the export of footballs decreased by 9.12 per cent in July 2020 to $12.539 million from $13.797 million in July 2019.

The exports of all other sports goods grew by 75.38 per cent, from $3.713 million in July 2019 to $6.512 million in July 2020.

The data further revealed that on a month-on-month basis, the exports of sports goods increased by 41.33 per cent in July 2020 compared to $18.516 million in June 2020.

On an overall basis, the country’s exports increased by 6.04 per cent in July 2020, while the trade deficit witnessed a reduction of 10.24 per cent during the first month of the current fiscal year compared to the trade deficit of the corresponding month of the last year.

The country’s trade deficit during July 2020 stood at $1.640 billion compared to the deficit of $1.827 billion during July 2019, according to PBS data.

On an overall basis, during July 2020, the country’s exports registered 6.04 per cent increase, from $1.886 billion last year to $2 billion during the current year whereas imports declined from $3.713 billion to $3.640 billion, showing a decline of 1.97 per cent.

Meanwhile, on a month-on-month basis, exports from the country increased by 25.08 per cent in July 2020 compared to the exports of $1.599 billion in June 2020.

Likewise, imports declined by 2.12 per cent in July 2020 compared to the imports of $3.719 billion in June 2020.
