Valued at $20m, RINSTRA seeks series A funding worth $2m

KARACHI: RINSTRA has been valued at $20 million on the basis of project and industry trends in the valuation of similar businesses in emerging and frontier markets. The Series A investment is planned for $2 million in funding from Pakistani origin investors.

RINSTRA aims at encouraging Pakistani content makers to produce great content for the platform and claims to offer a greater share of revenue generated than the existing market rate.

RINSTRA was floated as an idea at the DICE Foundation, USA’s annual meeting. The slogan to start RINSTRA was “Our Story Our Way”. The proof of content was approved and initial seed money obtained from American Pakistani diaspora of approximately $500,000 was invested to create the platform.

RINSTRA is a Pakistani digital platform for content creators. Other local Pakistani applications and platforms serve as a streaming service for news and entertainment channels or as video-on-demand services. What sets RINSTRA apart is the fact that it is open for Pakistani content creators making it the first user-generated platform in Pakistan.

In addition to that, RINSTRA has begun commissioning content with established names like Haseen Moin, Mehreen Jabbar, etc. whilst also providing young filmmakers with a platform for their content.

The Pakistani content industry includes content produced for TV in addition to SVOD platforms such as Netflix, Amazon Prime, Zee5, etc. However, the quantity of Pakistani content on the platform is limited. Netflix, however, holds the biggest market share.
