Financial crisis hits two-thirds of KP Municipal Administrations, urgent need for Rs343mn 

PESHAWAR: In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 92 tehsil municipal administrations are struggling with a severe financial crisis. These administrative bodies, employing 343,000 individuals and responsible for pension disbursements, are unable to meet their financial obligations.

The Municipal Department has submitted a grant request of Rs. 3.43 billion to the provincial government. This request includes Rs. 2.70 billion  for 67 tehsil municipal administrations in settled areas, and Rs. 72.46 million for all 25 tehsil municipal administrations in tribal areas.

According to the Local Council Board’s documents, grant requests for various tehsil municipal administrations are as follows:

Haripur: Rs. 15 million,  Kohat: Rs. 10.1 million, Batkhela and Bannu: Rs. 9.9 million each, Batgram, Nowshera, and Tank: Rs. 8.8 million each, Swat, Charsadda, and Sari Naurang: Rs. 7.7 million each, Lachi, Upper Dir, and Batkhela: Rs. 6.6 million each, Lakki Marwat: Rs. 6.4024 million, Paharpur, Havelian, Takht Bhai, Badbher, Hangu, Khall, and Takht Nasrati: Rs. 5 million each, Adinzai, Katlang, Merian, Lahor, Ghazni Khel, Draband, Shabqadar, Khwaza Khela, and Tangi: Rs. 4 million each Klachi: Rs. 4.1015 million

Chitral and Darosh TMA are each requesting Rs. 39.863 million, while Bandai Daud Shah TMA is seeking Rs. 33.565 million.

For several other TMAs, the grant requests are as follows:  Paroa and Martung: Rs. 0.5 million each, Bisham and Batkhela Koolai: Rs. 0.3 million each and Palas: Rs. 1.15 million

In tribal districts, the tehsil municipal administrations have requested grants as follows:

Parachinar: Rs. 11.4 million, Miranshah: Rs. 6 million, Sadda: Rs. 5 million, Razmak: Rs. 4.5517 million, Landi Kotal: Rs. 4.706 million, Jamrud: Rs. 4 million, Lower Mahmand, Kuzi, Wazir, Khara, and Laddah: Rs. 3 million each, Upper Mehmund: Rs. 2 million, Central Kurram, Upper Kurram, Bara, Sarwakai, Jandola, Mir Ali, and Darazinda: Rs. 2 million each, Bajaur: Rs. 1.44334 million, Dara Adam Khel: Rs. 1.11 million, Wana: Rs. 0.9 million

This financial crisis has left 74 tehsil municipal administrations in Malakand TMA requesting Rs. 5.5 lakh each, Paroa and Martung seeking Rs. 0.5 million each, and Palas requiring Rs. 1.15 million.

The urgency of the situation is further evident with the TMA of Paharpur, which has requested Rs. 1.15 million. The financial strain is impacting the functionality of municipal administrations across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The requested grants are crucial to address the immediate financial needs of these administrations.
