PTA resumes issuance of class licenses for data services

VPN service providers required to obtain licenses

The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has resumed granting Class Licenses for Data Services for the provision of VPN and related services in Pakistan.

According to a PTA news release, VPN service providers must obtain a Class License for Data Services to operate legally.

PTA clarified that the resumption of Class Licenses for Data does not include the provision of internet services. It also stated that Local Loop Licensees are allowed to offer class license services, such as VPN services, but only after obtaining separate prior permission from PTA.

This initiative highlights PTA’s commitment to fostering a secure, transparent, and innovative digital ecosystem while protecting the interests of users and stakeholders.
