Pakistan extends airspace ban on Indian flights until October 24

Restriction follows April’s Pahalgam attack fallout; NOTAM confirms ban covers all civilian and military aircraft

Pakistan has extended its ban on Indian aircraft flying through its airspace until October 24, the Pakistan Aviation Authority (PAA) confirmed on Friday.

According to a Notice to Airmen (NOTAM) issued by the authority, the closure applies to all Indian-registered aircraft, including those owned, operated, or leased by Indian airlines or operators, as well as military flights.

“Pakistan’s airspace will remain closed to Indian registered aircraft. This ban applies to all aircraft owned, operated or leased by Indian airlines or operators. This includes military flights,” PAA spokesperson Saifullah Khan told Dawn.com.

The NOTAM specifies that the ban will take effect from 1:00 PM (PKT) on September 19, 2025, and remain in place until 4:59 AM (PKT) on October 24, 2025, covering ground level to unlimited altitude.

The measure was first announced on April 24, when Pakistan’s military leadership imposed restrictions in response to what it called “a slew of aggressive measures” by New Delhi. The move followed India’s accusations — made without evidence, Islamabad said — that Pakistan had orchestrated the deadly April attack in occupied Kashmir’s Pahalgam.

Islamabad strongly rejected the allegations and urged a neutral probe. As tensions spiraled into a near-military confrontation, U.S. intervention was credited with bringing about a ceasefire.

Pakistan had temporarily reopened its airspace for all flight categories on May 10 after the truce was announced, but has since reimposed restrictions on Indian carriers multiple times.

Last month, the ban was extended until September 25 before Friday’s further extension was issued.
