The federal government is finalising a three-year power tariff relief plan that proposes reducing electricity prices for agricultural and industrial consumers by up to Rs14 per unit — bringing rates down to Rs22–23.50 from the current Rs38 and Rs34 respectively — to cut production costs and curb inflationary pressure, The Express Tribune reported, citing official sources.
If approved, the plan will take effect immediately following the prime minister’s formal announcement, which is expected in the coming days. The Power Division is set to present the proposal to the premier for approval before public release.
Officials said the package is designed to ensure “predictable and affordable” energy pricing for sectors most affected by high input costs. The relief would apply particularly to additional electricity consumption beyond standard use, encouraging higher productivity.
“The purpose is to boost production, stabilise prices, and support food security and exports,” an official said. “The government wants to give long-term certainty to farmers and industrialists by avoiding sudden tariff shocks.”
