Pakistan seeks Polish investment in energy, mining and tech sectors

Polish deputy prime minister meets PM Shehbaz, agrees to deepen bilateral cooperation

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Thursday invited Polish companies to invest in Pakistan’s energy, mining and information technology sectors during a meeting with Poland’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski.

The meeting, held at the Prime Minister’s House, was attended by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Muhammad Ishaq Dar, Foreign Secretary Amna Baloch, and Pakistan’s Ambassador to Poland Sami Malik, according to a statement from the Prime Minister’s Office.

Shehbaz highlighted Pakistan’s interest in expanding cooperation with Poland in trade, defence, education, labour and energy, noting that the two countries had maintained friendly relations for several decades. He praised Poland’s industrial and technological progress, which he said had been evident since the 1970s.

The two sides also discussed regional and international developments, including ongoing conflicts in the Middle East and Ukraine. The prime minister reiterated Pakistan’s support for resolving disputes through dialogue and diplomacy, underscoring the country’s adherence to international law, humanitarian principles and the UN Charter.

Shehbaz conveyed greetings to Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk and invited him to visit Pakistan at a mutually convenient time.

Sikorski expressed Poland’s interest in expanding its partnership with Pakistan across multiple sectors. He said Polish investment in Pakistan’s petrochemical sector currently exceeded $500 million and suggested cooperation in water treatment technology. He also commended Pakistan’s role in promoting regional peace and stability.

Both sides agreed to maintain close engagement to strengthen bilateral cooperation. Earlier in the day, Sikorski held detailed discussions with Ishaq Dar at the Foreign Office, where two memorandums of understanding were signed, followed by his address at a local think tank.
