PRA seizes records of 15 cafes, restaurants and marquees over tax default

Inspections uncover sales tax misreporting; heavy penalties expected for 15 businesses accused of withholding collected tax

The Punjab Revenue Authority (PRA) has intensified its crackdown on tax defaulters across the province, confiscating the records of 15 cafés, restaurants and marquees found involved in misreporting or withholding sales tax collected from customers.

A PRA spokesperson said that enforcement teams in Lahore, Gujranwala and Sargodha seized the records of several well-known fast-food and café chains during inspections. In Gujranwala, Rahim Yar Khan and Bahawalpur, officers also checked and confiscated records from additional restaurants and marquees.

The spokesperson confirmed that enforcement officers seized the records of four marquees, five cafés and six restaurants, noting that “heavy penalties will be imposed on businesses found guilty of collecting tax from customers but failing to deposit it into the government treasury.”

Dedicated enforcement teams have been deployed across Punjab to ensure recovery from non-filers and defaulters. According to the spokesperson, tax revenue collection has recorded an increase compared to the previous fiscal year, and no new taxes or rate hikes have been introduced by the Punjab government during the current financial year.
