National Savings revises Special Savings Certificates profit rates for January 2025

Special Savings Certificates profits set at 11.60% to 12.60% while Short-Term Savings Certificates profits remained unchanged at 12.38% to 12.76%

The National Savings has announced revised profit rates for Special Savings Certificates for January 2025. These certificates, aimed at small and medium investors, provide a secure investment avenue with bi-annual returns.

Special Savings Certificates are three-year investment instruments offering profits every six months. They are open to the public without any upper investment limit, making them accessible to a wide range of investors.

For January 2025, the profit rate has been set at 11.60% for the first five bi-annual profit payments, increasing to 12.60% for the sixth and final payment. An investment of Rs100,000 will generate Rs5,800 per profit period for the first five periods and Rs6,300 for the last.

Active Taxpayers (ATL) will incur a 15% withholding tax on profits, while non-filers will be subject to a higher tax rate of 30%.

Separately, the Central Directorate of National Savings (CDNS) announced that profit rates for Short Term Savings Certificates (STSCs) will remain unchanged in January 2025. This decision aligns with the ongoing decline in inflation across the country.

For January 2025, profit rates for Short Term Savings Certificates are as follows:

  • Three-month maturity certificates: The rate remains 12.76 percent, offering Rs3,190 on an investment of Rs100,000, compared to the previous 14.32 percent, which yielded Rs3,580.
  • Six-month maturity certificates: The rate is 12.74 percent, providing Rs6,370 per Rs100,000 investment, down from the earlier 13.46 percent, which gave Rs6,730.
  • One-year maturity certificates: The rate is now 12.38 percent, returning Rs12,380 on a Rs100,000 investment, a decrease from the prior 13.26 percent, which yielded Rs13,260.

Both Special and Short Term Savings Certificates remain important tools for individuals aiming to maximise returns on their savings amid fluctuating economic conditions.
