PTA raids illegal IMEI tampering operations in Mansehra

Six individuals are arrested and taken into custody for further legal action

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) Abbottabad, in collaboration with the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) Abbottabad, conducted raids targeting illegal IMEI tampering and the sale of cloned mobile devices.

Operations focused on mobile phone repair shops near Sufi Hotel, Lorry Adda, Mansehra, resulting in the seizure of desktop computers and software used for IMEI modification. Six individuals were arrested and taken into custody for further legal action.

PTA emphasized its zero-tolerance stance on illegal modification of mobile device identifiers, highlighting the risks such activities pose to national security and public safety, including facilitating cybercrime and financial fraud.

The authority urged the public to report suspicious activities related to phone cloning and tampering, while regulatory measures against violators are being intensified.
