FBR seizes first properties under Benami law

Investigators find the plots are registered under a benamidar (front person) whose CNIC is allegedly misused

ISLAMABAD: The Federal Board of Revenue’s (FBR) Anti-Benami Initiative (ABI) has confiscated its first immovable properties under the Benami Transactions (Prohibition) Act, 2017.

Two plots in Pakistan Employees Cooperative Housing Society (PECHS), Islamabad, Plot 168-A (816 square yards) and Plot 174-A (991 square yards), were seized. Investigators found the plots were registered under a benamidar (front person) whose CNIC was allegedly misused.

The named individual disclaimed ownership and was not registered with the FBR.

A reference was submitted to the Benami Adjudicating Authority Bench-I, Islamabad. The case was decided in favour of Benami Zone-I, Islamabad, and a confiscation order was issued.

Local law enforcement agencies helped enforce the order after all legal steps were completed.

This action is part of the government’s efforts against benami assets. The campaign began in July 2019 with the creation of three Anti-Benami Zones.

These zones operate under the Directorate General ABI and have submitted over 187 references covering shares, bank accounts, vehicles, land, and buildings.

ABI Zone-I, Islamabad, is responsible for investigations in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Rawalpindi Civil Division, and Islamabad Capital Territory.

According to FBR, the confiscation of the two plots supports efforts to address benami transactions, non-documented assets, untaxed income, and white-collar financial activities.
