Online portals for sugar supply activated, prices begin to decline

Sugar rates drop by up to Rs7 per kg as supply improves across markets

Online portals set up for sugar mills to deliver stock to markets have become operational, helping stabilise supply and ease prices in both wholesale and retail markets.

Dealers said the price of a 50-kg sugar bag has fallen to between Rs8,750 and Rs8,800. In the wholesale market, sugar is now selling at Rs175 to Rs180 per kilogram, while retail prices have declined to Rs180–190 per kilogram, marking a decrease of Rs5 to Rs7 per kg in recent days.

Traders attributed the downward trend to improved supply and the online distribution system, which has streamlined market deliveries.

However, sugar mill owners have reported continued challenges in Sindh, claiming that the portal system there remains partially inactive, leading to delays and logistical issues in the province’s sugar distribution.
