Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) has disconnected 950 illegal gas connections in an ongoing crackdown against gas theft across Sindh and Balochistan, the company said in a statement.
The anti-theft operation, conducted jointly by the SS&CGTO, CRD Theft Section, Distribution Department, SSGC Police, and local law enforcement agencies, targeted several areas in Karachi where direct underground connections were discovered.
During a recent raid, SSGC teams uncovered a direct link from an eight-inch distribution line supplying gas illegally to about 200 houses in Soomar Goth, National Highway, Steel Town, Malir.
According to the company, culprits were collecting Rs 20,000 in advance and Rs 2,000 monthly from consumers. FIRs have been registered against the accused, identified as Allah Wadaya Abbasi and Rafiq Buledi.
In another operation, illegal connections were found from a six-inch line supplying gas to roughly 300 houses in Shah Latif Town’s Sector 30/C and 100 houses in Benazirabad. The accused in this case—Allah Wadaya Abbasi and Shafiq Arain—were also charging advance and monthly fees. FIRs have been lodged against them.
Separately, in Yar Mohammad Goth, Malir, culprits identified as Muhammad Younus Khan and Muhammad Rafiq were found diverting gas from a 20-inch main line to around 300 houses. They too were collecting advance and monthly payments.
SSGC stated that it would continue its anti-theft operations and take strict legal action against those involved. “Gas theft is depleting a vital national resource, and SSGC remains committed to eliminating this menace,” the statement added.
