The Field Enforcement Unit (FEU) of the Collectorate of Customs (Enforcement), Quetta, successfully thwarted a major smuggling attempt on Wednesday, seizing a large consignment of foreign-origin cigarettes concealed under a load of coal.
Acting on credible intelligence, the FEU intercepted a Hino truck (Reg. No. TTD-853) near Rakhni, which appeared to be carrying coal. Upon examination, authorities uncovered 188 cartons of smuggled cigarettes, valued at an estimated Rs. 23.5 million. The truck itself was valued at Rs. 15 million, bringing the total value of the seizure to Rs. 38.5 million.
The seized goods and the vehicle have been shifted to the customs warehouse for legal proceedings under the Customs Act, 1969.
