PESHAWAR: In a significant move to ensure a clean and healthy environment, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Minister for Local Government, Meena Khan Afridi, has secured the release of a Rs. 1.414 billion supplementary budget grant for a province-wide cleanliness campaign.
The funds, released by the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Finance Department following a landmark decision in the 36th provincial cabinet meeting on August 12, 2025, are earmarked for a comprehensive cleanliness drive. The campaign will run from October to December 2025 across the Village Councils of all 28 settled districts in the province.
In a statement issued from his office, Minister Afridi emphasized that the initiative is designed to bring sanitation efforts directly to the grassroots level. “We have brought the cleanliness drive to the Village Council level,” he stated, confirming that the campaign is now ongoing. He also appealed to the public to actively participate in the local cleanliness efforts.
According to the official notification, the allocated funds will cover the salaries of janitors and the fuel and repair costs for loader rickshaws used in waste collection. The provincial capital, Peshawar, has received the highest single allocation of Rs. 127.113 million. The entire amount is being transferred directly to the designated bank accounts of the respective Village Councils.
To ensure transparency and accountability, the Finance Department has mandated that subsequent fund installments will be released only upon the submission of verified progress reports every three months.
