PESHAWAR: Pakistan Customs successfully foiled a large-scale smuggling attempt of foreign-origin narcotics worth Rs910 million on Wednesday during a routine check at IP-JCP Aman Mela, Peshawar. The drugs, identified as ICE (Crystal Methamphetamine), were concealed inside three specially designed inverters on a Daewoo bus.

The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) stated that the operation followed credible intelligence provided by the Deputy Collector Customs, D.I. Customs officials recovered 15 packets of the narcotic substance, totaling 15,350 grams (net 15,200 grams after sampling).

The narcotics were valued at Rs910.2 million, while the Daewoo bus used for the transportation was valued at Rs15 million, bringing the total estimated value of the seizure to Rs925.2 million. The driver and conductor of the bus were arrested on the spot, and an FIR was lodged against them.

During the operation, the customs team came under fire from unidentified assailants, but their swift and courageous response ensured no casualties or loss of goods. The FBR commended the support of Pakistan Army troops and police personnel, who quickly arrived at the scene, ensuring the safe escort of the narcotics and staff to the State Warehouse in D.I. Khan.
