Karachi Kings, Lahore Qalandars, and Peshawar Zalmi renew PSL franchise rights for 10 years

Franchises reaffirm long-term commitment to Pakistan cricket, with enhanced focus on growth and international expansion

The Pakistan Super League (PSL) has secured long-term stability with Karachi Kings, Lahore Qalandars, and Peshawar Zalmi all renewing their franchise rights for the next decade.

Karachi Kings finalized its renewal agreement with the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) on Tuesday, extending its commitment to the league for another ten years. Team owner Salman Iqbal, one of the league’s earliest investors, expressed pride in the franchise’s contribution to Pakistan cricket, especially during times when international teams were not touring the country. “In 2015, we stepped up to bring cricket back,” Iqbal stated. He emphasized that their initial investment was about more than just acquiring a team; it was about restoring Pakistan’s cricketing legacy. CEO Tariq Wasi added that the renewal would support further growth in the PSL ecosystem, with a focus on a competitive team, fan engagement, and global outreach.

Similarly, Lahore Qalandars and Peshawar Zalmi also renewed their franchise rights with the PCB on November 24th, marking their own decade-long commitment to the PSL. The Qalandars’ renewal comes after an independent valuation by EY MENA, which ranked them as the most valuable franchise in the league, based on both on-field success and organizational strength. The team’s three PSL titles in the last four seasons have cemented their position as one of the tournament’s most dominant sides.

At a celebration for their 10th anniversary, Lahore Qalandars highlighted their growing international partnerships, including collaborations with Zimbabwe Cricket, which offer player exchange opportunities. A significant announcement during the event was the launch of a new Lahore Qalandars High Performance Centre in Islamabad, aimed at expanding youth development programs and enhancing Pakistan’s talent pipeline.

Meanwhile, Peshawar Zalmi Chairman Javed Afridi emphasized the team’s renewed ambition, focusing on player development, fan engagement, and global expansion. Zalmi’s renewal is seen as a step towards greater financial stability and enhanced international visibility for the league.

With the renewal agreements in place, the PSL is poised to benefit from enhanced financial stability, expanded player pathways, and continued international exposure, further solidifying its place in Pakistan’s cricketing future.
